Saint John Vianney Catholic Church (SJV) is one of the many parishes in the Greater Houston area that is a partner of Catholic Charities. The church recently featured one of Catholic Charities’ counselors in its latest newsletter. Read on to learn more about the work Sandra and the Counseling Services team do in the community:
One of our most frequently asked questions at the Social Service Ministries is whether SJV offers counseling services or not. Rather than replying ‘kind of,’ meet Sandra.
Sandra is a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate. She works for Catholic Charities’ Counseling Services program, where she helps guide clients in need as they work through life’s most challenging problems with family, mental-health and counseling services. Her job encompasses counseling individuals, couples, group and family sessions as well as preventive and educational services for adults and children.
SJV partners with Catholic Charities so they can provide these services throughout the West Houston area. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sandra meets with her patients at the SJV offices. Although all appointments are scheduled directly with Catholic Charities, after three years of coming to SJV, Sandra has become more than ‘one of the team.’ She has become a close friend.
Originally from Bolivia, Sandra has lived in the U.S. for many years, and she’s worked incredibly hard to get her degrees accredited. She has also continued her studies in order to be able to help those in need of counseling.
SJV recently celebrated Sandra’s birthday, and Feb. 18 marks the third year of Sandra coming to the church. With her always-cheerful disposition, Sandra has made a difference in the lives of not only her clients, but also the lives of us who have had the pleasure and blessing of working with her. Happy birthday and happy anniversary Sandra!
